LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Charles Reichenthal upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition by the 60th Precinct Communi-
ty Council on May 28, 2015
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Charles Reichenthal upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the 60th Precinct Community Council to be celebrated at a
dinner at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday, May
28, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A proud Brooklyn native, Charles Reichenthal served as
District Manager of Community Board 13 for over 23 years; and
WHEREAS, Charles Reichenthal has lived and worked around the Coney
Island/Brighton Beach/Sea Gate areas since childhood; during his profes-
sional career, he served as the first Editor of the COURIER-LIFE chain,
including the BAY NEWS, and was co-founder of the Brooklyn Arts and
Culture Association; and
WHEREAS, An esteemed writer-actor-producer, Charles Reichenthal's
performances and shows have been presented for decades throughout the
City of New York and beyond; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was one of the founders of Welcome Back
to Brooklyn Day, the Lights! Camera! Auction! Telethon for Brooklyn
culture groups, and Brooklyn's International Film Festival; he has also
worked with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and
the Academy Awards for college filmmakers; and
WHEREAS, Charles Reichenthal served on founding committees for the
Atlantic Antic, which he helped name, and thousands of outdoor
festivals, concerts, and block party events; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure as District Manager of Communi-
ty Board 13, Charles Reichenthal worked tirelessly to address civic
complaints and budgetary needs; furthermore, he has been involved in
numerous city, state, and local government projects, and has worked
closely with such groups as the Coney Island Development Corp., Brighton
BID, Sea Gate Association, and hundreds of neighborhood organizations;
and
WHEREAS, As the first leader of Community Board 13's Community Emer-
gency Response Team, Charles Reichenthal oversaw recovery efforts after
Superstorm Sandy, and such annual events as the census count of the
homeless; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Charles Reichenthal worked on such important
issues as monitoring shoreline problems, park programming, Boardwalk and
amusement area events, youth activities, and public relations; he also
attended meetings with students and private individuals interested in
learning about the area, and planning for new businesses and activities;
and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Charles Reichenthal has been a vital part of
numerous community events including the annual Brighton Jubilee, Polar
Bear Swim, Road Runners' events, park concerts and special activities,
and Coney Island Hospital Health Fairs; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Charles Reichenthal has been involved in prepara-
tions for emergencies at senior residences, and programs with the Brook-
lyn Cyclones, the Brighton Neighborhood Association Alliance for Coney
Island, and countless housing organizations, and houses of worship; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of efforts to sustain a strong, cooperative
relationship with the 60th Police Precinct for over two decades, Charles
Reichenthal's efforts have been vital in maintaining communication and
unity throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Charles Reichenthal has been the recipient of numerous acco-
lades for his outstanding service, and has been honored for his work
involving programs for youth, the disabled, and arts programming; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Charles Reichenthal has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Charles Reichenthal upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the 60th Precinct Community Council; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charles Reichenthal.
