LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Gary Slattery upon the occasion of
his induction into the 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward
Institute
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Gary Slattery upon the occasion of his induction into the 2014
Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute, which was celebrated
at its Induction Ceremony on September 27, 2014; and
WHEREAS, An important figure in the history of the SS Seward Institute
Athletics Program, Gary Slattery, Class of 1961, had a four-year career
in varsity soccer, basketball, and baseball; and
WHEREAS, Gary Slattery was recognized for his superb athletic perform-
ance; he made the All-County All-Star team in both his junior and senior
years in all three sports; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the varsity basketball team, Gary Slattery
scored his team a 34-point game against Tuxedo in 1961; he was the lead-
ing scorer in the B Division that same year; and
WHEREAS, In baseball, Gary Slattery's stellar performance was shown
when a fellow Seward Hall of Famer was throwing a no-hitter against
Otisville, and Gary went five for five at the plate; and
WHEREAS, One of Gary Slattery's fondest memories during his high
school athletic career was the OC League Championship Basketball Game in
1961; SS Seward, the underdog, was leading for the first three quarters,
and only lost by a few points; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Gary Slattery went on to play two years of
soccer and basketball at OCCC; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from what is now SUNY Orange, Gary Slattery
earned a bachelor's degree in 1975, and a master's degree in 1978, both
from New York University; and
WHEREAS, Today, Gary Slattery is the President/CEO of Education Intel-
ligence, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee, which he founded in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Gary Slattery provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Gary Slattery has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
the SS Seward Institute, as well as to the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Gary Slattery upon the occasion of his induction into the
2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gary Slattery.
