LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring retired Colonel Daniel J. Travers,
United States Army, upon the occasion of being selected as Grand Marshal
of the Lansingburgh Memorial Day Parade, May 25, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and ener-
gies to the service of their community and profession, participating in
civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
retired Colonel Daniel J. Travers upon the occasion of being selected as
Grand Marshal of Lansingburgh's 19th Annual Memorial Day Parade to be
held on Monday, May 25, 2015; and
WHEREAS, On Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of the
month of May, we honor those Americans who gave their lives in defense
of their country, whether in the Civil War which divided our nation,
international conflicts such as the World Wars, or in peacetime service
to uphold the cherished principles of liberty and democracy upon which
our grand Republic was founded; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Grand Marshal of the Lansingburgh Memo-
rial Day Parade, Colonel Daniel J. Travers proudly served his country as
a member of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Troy (Lansingburgh), New York, Daniel J. Travers is
a 1975 graduate of Siena College, and received his commission through
the Siena College Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program in
1978; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1/105th Infantry Battalion, 42nd Infantry
Division, as a Medical Service Corps Officer, he served with the Battal-
ion while attending graduate school; upon receiving his Master's degree
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1981, he entered active mili-
tary service; and
WHEREAS, Following the completion of the Signal Officer's Basic Course
and Teleprocessing Operations Officer Course, he was assigned to the
72nd Field Artillery Brigade in Wertheim, Germany, serving as the Commu-
nications Platoon Leader and Brigade Communications-Electronics Officer;
and
WHEREAS, After returning from Europe, Colonel Daniel J. Travers was
assigned to Fort Drum, New York, with the 76th Engineer Battalion
(Combat Heavy) and later the 41st Engineer Battalion, 10th Mountain
Division (Light Infantry) as the Battalion Communications-Electronics
Officer and Battalion Adjutant; and
WHEREAS, Upon release from active military service in 1985, Colonel
Daniel J. Travers entered the New York Army National Guard where he
served in successive assignments at the New York State Area Command as
the Assistant State Signal Officer, State Signal Officer, Director of
Information Technology, and the Director of Facilities Management and
Engineering; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Daniel J. Travers was then assigned to the 27th
Infantry Brigade as a Safety Officer; with his 27th Infantry Brigade
assignment complete, he was assigned as the G6 for the 42nd Infantry
Division, the "Rainbow Division"; he served in this capacity with the
Division at the World Trade Center at Ground Zero in Manhattan, New
York, and in Tikrit, Iraq, at Forward Operating Base Danger with Task
Force Liberty as part of Multinational Force North Central in the Sunni
Triangle; and

WHEREAS, While in Iraq, he, along with the G6 section and the 250th
Signal Battalion and 17th Signal Battalion, deployed, operated and main-
tained the most complex tactical and commercial federation of communi-
cations networks on earth supporting over 23,000 military and civilian
subscribers in every facet of communications and information technology;
and
WHEREAS, This network included the integration and fielding of Joint
Nodal Network (JNN) systems into a legacy Mobile Subscriber Equipment
(MSE) network, the first time such integration was ever tested in a
combat theater of operations; his last assignment was as the State Area
Command, New York J6 in the Joint Force Headquarters; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Daniel J. Travers is a graduate of the United States
Army Airborne Course, Signal Officers Basic Course, Signal Officers
Advanced Course, the United States Army Command and General Staff
College, United States Army Transportation Officers Advanced Course,
United States Army Comptroller Course and various other military
schools; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his distinguished military service, Colonel
Daniel J. Travers was awarded the Bronze Star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with
two Service Stars, Legion of Merit, the Global War on Terrorism Medal,
and New York State Defense of Liberty Medal with "WTC" device for
service at Ground Zero, Parachutist Badge, and several other federal and
state military awards; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man is a member of the Veterans of Lansing-
burgh, the American Legion Post No. 1520 and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post No. 7466; and
WHEREAS, Today, Colonel Daniel J. Travers is employed as a Project
Manager with the New York State Information Technology Services (ITS)
assigned to the New York State Workers Compensation Board; and
WHEREAS, As we observe and remember our deceased veterans on Memorial
Day, we recall their brave and noble deeds as well as their sacrifices
which have served to maintain our most precious and cherished freedoms
and honor those who continue to work diligently to support and sustain
them; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor retired Colonel Daniel J. Travers, United States Army, upon the
occasion of being selected as Grand Marshal of the Lansingburgh Memorial
Day Parade, May 25, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to retired Colonel Daniel J. Travers.
