LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Irvington Fire Chief Chris DePaoli in
recognition of his heroic actions in stopping a violent attack at the
Irvington Metro-North Station

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take prompt and appro-
priate action in emergency situations; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Irvington Fire Chief Chris DePaoli in recognition of his heroic actions
in stopping a violent attack at the Irvington Train Station; and
WHEREAS, On April 8, 2015, Fire Chief Chris DePaoli was driving with
his two daughters when, after pulling up near a stop sign at the Irving-
ton Metro-North Station, he observed a man with a knife threatening a
woman; and
WHEREAS, Responding without hesitation, or concern for his own safety,
Fire Chief Chris DePaoli retrieved a baseball bat from his trunk and
rushed to the scene to provide assistance; and
WHEREAS, This courageous man separated the victim and her assailant,
and police officers arrived shortly thereafter to subdue the attacker
before he could commit further harm; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Chris DePaoli should be meritoriously commended
for remaining calm under pressure and for showing valor and true courage
while performing a lifesaving deed; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Chris DePaoli has been a proud member of the
Irvington Fire Department for many years, and has dedicated his life to
helping others; and
WHEREAS, Through his heroic actions, Fire Chief Chris DePaoli demon-
strated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of citi-
zens across the community of New York State who respond without the
thought of danger or reward when others are in need of help; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
Irvington Fire Chief Chris DePaoli in recognition of his heroic actions
in stopping a violent attack at the Irvington Metro-North Station; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Irvington Fire Chief Chris DePaoli.
