LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending CAMBA upon the occasion of hosting its
Adult Literacy Center's Annual Recognition Ceremony on May 21, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
CAMBA upon the occasion of hosting its Adult Literacy Center's Annual
Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Flatbush Dutch
Reform Church in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will celebrate CAMBA, the support of
its friends and the accomplishments of its students, who will be recog-
nized for earning their High School Equivalency Diploma, obtaining
United States citizenship and achieving other milestones in class during
the program year; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1977, CAMBA is a non-profit organization which
provides services that connect people with opportunities to enhance
their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, CAMBA offers more than 150 integrated services and programs
in economic development, education and youth development, family
support, health, housing and legal services; in addition, CAMBA Housing
Ventures builds sustainable and affordable apartments for low-income New
Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization serves more than 45,000 individuals
and families, including 9,000 youth, each year; its multi-faceted dedi-
cated staff of over 1,500 speaks 30 languages and serves residents of
diverse ethnic backgrounds, including recent immigrants and refugees
from around the world; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, fifteen percent of CAMBA employees are also
former clients, and many live in the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, With more than 60 locations throughout New York City, CAMBA's
unique set of programs has grown in response to the needs of those it
serves; consistently recognized as a leader among human service organ-
izations, CAMBA and CAMBA Housing Ventures were awarded the 2013 Nonpro-
fit of the Year Award by the National and New York Housing Conferences;
and
WHEREAS, The success of CAMBA is in direct correlation to the efforts
of its members and staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to CAMBA; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend CAMBA upon the occasion of hosting its Adult Literacy Center's
Annual Recognition Ceremony on May 21, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to CAMBA.
