LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Glenn C. Swart, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Glenn C. Swart of Afton, New York, died in Oxford, New York,
on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, Glenn C. Swart distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Glenn C. Swart was born to Reeta and Marion Swart on July 21,
1922, and attended Afton High School; upon graduation he studied at
Ithaca College; later he served his country as a member of the United
States Army, in the Pacific during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Glenn C. Swart owned Swart's Hardware Store, where he was
known as an honest and fair businessman; he proudly coached and spon-
sored the Swart's Hardware Little League Team; upon retirement he became
a real estate agent; and
WHEREAS, Glenn C. Swart's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Glenn C. Swart was an active member and Chief of the Afton
Hose Company and the Afton Emergency Squad, as well as the Afton Sertoma
Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion Post 923, and the
Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Glenn C. Swart served on the Fire Board of
Commissioners, Town Council, and Water Board, and was an Afton Town
Supervisor and member of the Chenango County Board of Supervisors for 10
years; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his loving wife, Joyce; two brothers, Gilbert
and Lewis; and two children, Terri and David, Glenn C. Swart is survived
by two children, Gilbert (Christine) and Christine; five grandchildren,
Aaron, Mary Ellen (John), Dondee (Josh), Kristin and Kerri; and six
great-grandchildren, Julius, Chandler, Gregory, Kailey, Samantha and
BellaDonna; as well as one brother; Leon; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Glenn C. Swart leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Glenn C. Swart, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Glenn C. Swart.
