LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Maplewood Community Library upon
the occasion of its designation as an Honorable Mention in the 2015
School Library of the Year Contest by the Rochester Regional Library
Council

WHEREAS, Library programs provide the means for individuals to enter a
lifetime of learning while gaining cultural understanding and the
enhancement of global communication skills; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across the great
State of New York is reflective of certain exemplary library insti-
tutions whose purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the
needs of its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Maplewood Community Library upon the occasion of its designation as
an Honorable Mention in the 2015 School Library of the Year Contest by
the Rochester Regional Library Council, to be celebrated at its Annual
Meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Casa Larga, Fairport, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC) is a multi-type
library network serving libraries and library systems in the five-county
Rochester region of Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne and Wyoming coun-
ties; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the RRLC recognizes outstanding libraries which
have provided exceptional service to the citizens of its community; and
WHEREAS, The Maplewood Community Library, a branch of the Rochester
Public Library, has been an invaluable resource for residents of the
City of Rochester since 1959; and
WHEREAS, A vital part of its community for over five decades, this
remarkable institution has continually strived to provide outstanding
service to a diverse population of neighborhood residents; its dedicated
staff are always willing to go out of their way to help readers; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Maplewood Community Library offers assist-
ance to immigrants and recent refugees by offering such programs as
English language tutoring, temporary child care, and computer classes;
and
WHEREAS, With an atmosphere of caring, the Maplewood Community Library
works to provide a safe environment for children, helping them succeed
through homework assistance literary aides and tutors, and special age-
appropriate activities; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Maplewood Community Library is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeav-
ors on behalf of this institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Branch Manager Johanna Buran,
the Maplewood Community Library will continue to help young people and
adults to learn, think critically, and create and share knowledge for
many more years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Maplewood Community Library upon the occasion of its desig-

nation as an Honorable Mention in the 2015 School Library of the Year
Contest by the Rochester Regional Library Council; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Johanna Buran, Branch Manager, Maplewood Community Library.
