LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Willie Marlowe upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Les Urbach Lifetime Achievement Award by
the Albany Center Gallery

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those individuals who serve to enhance the cultural enrichment of the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Willie Marlowe upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Les Urbach Lifetime Achievement Award by the Albany Center Gallery which
was celebrated at its annual Winter Gala on Saturday, November 15, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, The Les Urbach Lifetime Achievement Award is presented by the
board of directors of the Albany Center Gallery to an individual who has
distinguished herself by zealously and generously promoting the mission
and interests of the gallery, Capital Region artists and arts communi-
ties served by the gallery; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award symbolizes the inspired and courageous
efforts of Albany Center Gallery founder Leslie Urbach to establish a
center for regional artists to display and market their work, as well as
to educate the larger community about the vast talents and diverse
possibilities inherent in regional art and artists; and
WHEREAS, Willie Marlowe has shown paintings in solo and invitational
exhibitions across the United States and internationally; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman's work is included in museum, university,
corporate and private collections, and has been supported by grants from
Artist's Space, NYC, and by numerous Strategic Opportunity Stipend
Awards from the New York Foundation on the Arts; and
WHEREAS, Willie Marlowe has been a visiting artist in Barbados, West
Indies, Cortona, Italy, and in Wexford, Ireland, where she had a ten
year retrospective exhibition at the Wexford Arts Center; and
WHEREAS, Willie Marlowe has also had artist's residencies at such
places as the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, New York, the
Emily Harvey Foundation for the Arts, Venice, Italy and at Milkwood
International Residencies, Czech Republic; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Willie Marlowe was a member of the Albany-Tula
Alliance Delegation to Russia, and was invited by the Tula State Lev
Tolstoy Pedagogical University to give a presentation on her paintings
done during residencies in Ireland and Italy; and
WHEREAS, Willie Marlowe has taught painting and drawing in the Depart-
ment of Visual Arts at the Sage College of Albany, and has taught water-
color in two of the Sage Colleges' International Studies programs, "Sage
at Oxford", Somerville College, Oxford University, and "Celtic
Connections" in Scotland and Ireland; she is now Professor Emerita at
the Sage Colleges; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the vitality of our artistic communities and have shown a long
and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the recog-
nition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Willie Marlowe upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Les Urbach Lifetime Achievement Award by the Albany Center
Gallery; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Willie Marlowe.
