LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of Civic
Morning Musicals, Inc.

WHEREAS, Performing arts organizations provide a vital role providing
entertainment in their communities, and an outlet for musical talent to
be showcased in a method that the whole community can enjoy; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State to pay tribute to those
organizations who have contributed to the growth and performance of the
performing arts in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
125th Anniversary of Civil Morning Musicals, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, In 1890, Civil Morning Musicals, Inc. was founded by a group
of women that began Morning Musicals to perform recitals in their homes;
and
WHEREAS, Soon after, in 1894, with success and expansion, they became
the "impresarios" of Syracuse, New York, by not only giving performances
themselves, but sponsoring performances by others; and
WHEREAS, From 1894 until 1980, Civic Morning Musicals, Inc. brought
famous orchestras, instrumental groups, and soloists from all over the
globe to perform in Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, Since 1980 to the present, Civic Morning Musicals, Inc. has
provided performance opportunities to the most accomplished artists in
Central New York; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 35 years, Civic Morning Musicals, Inc. have
facilitated many programs and performances to the community, including a
Sunday Concert Series, vocal competition, and weekly recitals; and
WHEREAS, Civic Morning Musicals, Inc. have also engaged the youth of
the Central New York community via creation of a Junior Performing Arts
program designed to hone the skills of those learning the performing
arts, and an awards program for high school, and college artists; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to make note of
enduring community performing arts organizations and to bring such
institutions to the attention of the people of this Empire State; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Civic Morning Musicals, Inc., fully
confident that this commemoration reflects the efforts of Civic Morning
Musicals, Inc. to further the performance and education of the perform-
ers in the Central New York community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Civic Morning Musicals, Inc. of Syracuse, New York.
