LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Larry Laoretti upon the occasion
of his induction into the 2015 SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess and distinguished record of
service leaves an enduring legacy in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Larry Laoretti upon the occasion of his induction into the 2015
SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at an induction cere-
mony held on June 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, A native of Mahopac, New York, Larry Laoretti was a five-time
all-star in basketball, baseball, and football, and a graduate of Maho-
pac High School in 1950, before proudly serving his country as a member
of the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, Following the completion of his military service, Larry
Laoretti played professional golf on the PGA Tour, and served as a head
golf professional at numerous prestigious courses; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, this esteemed man won both the regular and senior
Florida PGA Championships; he joined the Senior PGA Tour the following
season, and later won the 1992 U.S. Senior Open; and
WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Larry Laoretti has served as a volun-
teer spokesman, advocate, and supporter of golf, education and athletic
programs at SUNY Delhi; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Larry Laoretti agreed to be SUNY Delhi's national
spokesman to assist with efforts to raise funds for the expansion of the
college golf course, a venue which also serves a variety of athletic
teams; and
WHEREAS, Since then, Larry Laoretti has appeared at virtually every
golf fund-raising tournament for the school, and the value of his volun-
teer services has been immeasurable; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Larry Laoretti has hosted the SUNY Delhi college
golf team at his club in Florida, and is a regular celebrity guest at
the annual benefit held in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Larry Laoretti provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Larry Laoretti has clearly been an inspiration to the youth
of SUNY Delhi, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Larry Laoretti upon the occasion of his induction into the
2015 SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Larry Laoretti.
