LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Paul R. English, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English of Greene, New York, died in Oxford, New
York, on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English was born in his home in Greene, New York and
attended Greene Central School; upon graduation he served his country by
enlisting in the United States Army; he later attended Cornell Universi-
ty where his love of agriculture drew him back to his homestead to begin
dairy farming; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English worked with his brother, Pete, at the Chenan-
go Builders Association, eventually forming the English Construction
Company; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Upon the passing of his father, William, Paul R. English
filled out his position on the Greene Town Board as Town Supervisor,
serving from 1959-1973 and again from 1984-1990; in 1973 he was
appointed the Chenango County Highway Superintendent, a position he held
for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English was a member of the Eastern Light Masonic
Lodge and a Deacon of the Central Baptist Church; he also received the
1979 Lion of the Year Award from the Greene Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Paul R. English is survived by his loving wife of 62 years,
Susan; his children; Paula (Daniel) Williams, Jonathan (Kathleen)
English, Karen (Thomas) Zabadal and Christopher (JoAnn) English; and 11
grandchildren, Sarah (Matt), Luke (Ashley), Paul (Lacey), Seth (Sarah),
Katherine (Evan), Jessica (Parker), Jeffery, Carter, Stacia, Lorilea and
Melissa; as well as seven great-grandchildren Clara, Reid, Emily, Haley,
Addison, Maggie and Oliver; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Paul R. English leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Paul R. English, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Paul R. English.
