LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ashima and Mike Narula upon the occa-
sion of their designation for special recognition by Friends of Sands
Point Preserve at its Seventh Annual Preservers' Celebration, Jewels of
India on May 23, 2015
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Ashima and Mike Narula upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Friends of Sands Point Preserve at its Seventh
Annual Preservers' Celebration, Jewels of India, feted on Saturday, May
23, 2015, at the Hempstead House, Sands Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, Friends of the Sands Point Preserve, a not-for-pro-
fit organization, was formed to help ensure the future of the Hempstead
House/Gould-Guggenheim Estate in Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization's mission is to preserve and protect
this diverse property in a manner which will enhance its historic homes,
vast green open spaces, beachfront, barns and stables, gardens, indige-
nous wildlife and miles of extraordinary trails; and
WHEREAS, Hempstead House or the Gould-Guggenheim Estate, is a large
estate located in Sands Point, New York; the vast grounds contain two
castle-like buildings, Hempstead House, the main house, and a smaller
house, known as Castle Gould; and
WHEREAS, Long-time residents of Sands Point, Ashima and Mike Narula,
the loving parents of three daughters, are devoted to the well-being of
their community; and
WHEREAS, Born in India, Mike Narula immigrated to the United States in
1997; he holds the esteemed positions of Founder/President/CEO of Reli-
ance Communications LLC, one of the largest United States distributors
of wireless devices and related products; and
WHEREAS, Since 2012, Mike Narula has been a vital member of the Board
of Directors of CTIA, The Wireless Association, and also serves on its
Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, A recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year
2011 New York Award, Mike Narula supports numerous business and charita-
ble organizations including the Mayor's Cup All-Scholastic Tennis Cham-
pionships, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's Hope
Awards and Congressional Banquet, The Wireless Foundation, US-India
Business Council, and the Friends Academy Annual Dinner and Auction, The
Hauppauge Industrial Association, and New York & New Jersey Minority
Suppliers Development Council, as well as American Heart Association's
Go Red For Women Program; and
WHEREAS, An established architect with a passion for education, Ashima
Narula holds the position of Chairwoman of Reliance Communications LLC;
and
WHEREAS, After joining Modern Architects as a partner in 1999, Ashima
Narula worked intensely on educational projects in India; she collab-
orated with His Holiness The Dalai Lama, designing and establishing the
TCV Vocational Training Centre, helping destitute Tibetan children
living in exile; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman served as lead architect for the Song-
sten Library, and designed projects for Primary School campuses, and the
Theological College University; throughout her tenure, Modern Architects
has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades; and
WHEREAS, Ashima Narula participates on the Board of Directors of the
Mahatma Khushi Ram Public Library, a non-governmental organization
co-founded by her grandfather in India in 1921; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Ashima Narula is an associate of the Indian Insti-
tute of Architects, a member of the Royal Institute of British Archi-
tects, and certified by the Council of Architecture in India; she is
also an empanelled architect on the Board of Directors of EdCil India;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ashima and Mike Narula upon the occasion of their designation
for special recognition by Friends of Sands Point Preserve at its
Seventh Annual Preservers' Celebration, Jewels of India; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ashima and Mike Narula.
