LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Steven Chickery upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 Business Person of the Year Award
by THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those illus-
trious individuals and institutions of the State of New York whose
purposeful endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
Steven Chickery upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2015 Business Person of the Year Award by THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL to be
celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Dutchess Community College in
Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL Business Person of the Year Award is
presented annually to an individual whose leadership, hard work and
dedication have had an immeasurable impact on the economic viability and
vitality of the region and surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, Steven Chickery is President of Hudson Valley Office Furni-
ture, a firm founded by his father in 1977, under the name Hudson Valley
Stationers; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Hudson Valley Stationers moved to its current
location in Poughkeepsie, New York, where it has faithfully served the
community for almost three decades; and
WHEREAS, Today, Steven Chickery and his brothers continue their family
tradition of offering high quality products with outstanding customer
service; the company now has a second location in Newburgh, and a new
generation is helping to run the business; and
WHEREAS, Steven Chickery has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In addition to managing Hudson Valley Office Furniture, Stev-
en Chickery serves as Board Chair at Grace Smith House, and as Vice
President of the Board at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Steven Chickery has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Steven Chickery has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when business
leaders of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Steven Chickery upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2015 Business Person of the Year Award by THE POUGHKEEPSIE JOUR-
NAL; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Steven Chickery, President, Hudson Valley Office Furniture.
