LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Arcangelo Bollella upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of those exemplary citizens, who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, and in doing so,
help others to avert life-threatening danger; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Arcangelo
Bollella upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate, to be celebrated at the Veterans' Appreciation Day on
Sunday, June 14, 2015, at The Eliot at Catskill; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, In addition to receiving the auspicious Liberty Medal, Arcan-
gelo Bollella was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall
of Fame, which recognizes outstanding veterans from throughout the State
who have distinguished themselves in their military service, as well as
their civilian life; and
WHEREAS, At the young age of 18, Arcangelo Bollella emigrated from
Italy to the United States; three years later, he proudly became a
member of the United States Army, and returned to Italy to fight for his
new country in the Mediterranean Theater with the 36th Infantry Divi-
sion; and
WHEREAS, Private First Class Arcangelo Bollella acquitted himself
valiantly throughout the Naples-Foggia Campaign, and consequently, was
awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service during ground operations
against the enemy; and
WHEREAS, Unfortunately, Private First Class Arcangelo Bollella was
wounded during the war; subsequently, he spent three years recuperating
in a hospital; and
WHEREAS, After his release from the hospital, Arcangelo Bollella held
the position of Elevator Operator for the Veterans' Administration,
serving his fellow veterans; he went on to attain the rank of Special
Tactical Police Officer, the official title from which he retired; and
WHEREAS, Along with the Bronze Star, Private First Class Arcangelo
Bollella was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including
the Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct
Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge, as well as the European, Afri-
can, and Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two stars; and
WHEREAS, Arcangelo Bollella, through his spontaneous and heroic
actions, demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare
of others, personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective
concern of ordinary citizens across the community of the State of New
York who voluntarily respond when others are in need of help; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Arcangelo Bollella upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by
the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Arcangelo Bollella.
