LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of St.
Andrew's Episcopal Church of South Fallsburg, New York to be celebrated
on May 30, 2015

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and Nation to pay tribute
to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to the
ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
100th Anniversary of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of South Fallsburg,
New York to be celebrated with a Mass lead by the Right Reverend Allen
K. Shin, Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of New York, followed by a
Reception on Saturday, May 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion marks the Centennial Year of St.
Andrew's Episcopal Church, which was founded by the families of some of
the very same people who continue to worship at this vital religious
institution today; and
WHEREAS, The first services of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church were held
at a private home in July of 1912; services were later held at the
Fallsburg Fishing & Boating Club, and in 1914, land on Route 42 was
purchased; just one year later, the ground under the church was dug out
by hand and the undercroft was completed; and
WHEREAS, The church, which has been described as "in the vernacular
style of the early Nineteenth Century," was physically built by the
congregation and that hands-on feeling is still evident today, 100 years
later; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission of outreach and giving back to
the community, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church has been running a very
active food pantry open to Town of Fallsburg residents since 1999; in
addition, its Chamber Music at St. Andrew's Series offers free concerts
featuring world renowned musicians; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as the "small church with the big
heart," St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is part of a four parish collab-
oration known as the Delaware-Catskill Episcopal Ministry that also
includes Grace Church in Port Jervis, St. James' Church in Callicoon and
St. John's Church in Monticello; and
WHEREAS, At present, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church stands humbly,
prayerfully, meditatively, and joyfully; and
WHEREAS, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church stands on the threshold of
tomorrow, by God's grace, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming
decades while retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its
past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of
South Fallsburg, New York to be celebrated on May 30, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of South Fallsburg, New York.
