LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the 1930 and 1933 Granville High School
Football Teams upon the occasion of being inducted into the Capital
Region Football Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding sports teams who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor 1930
and 1933 Granville High School Football Teams upon the occasion of being
inducted into the Capital Region Football Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, In August of 2015, the 1930 and 1933 Granville High School
Football Teams will become the first athletic teams inducted into the
Capital Region Football Hall of Fame, which previously had included only
players, coaches and officials; and
WHEREAS, During the late 1920s and into the 1930s, Granville High
School boasted one of the premier football programs in the Capital
Region, accomplishing a run of dominance that has never been matched;
and
WHEREAS, The Granville Golden Horde lost only three games from 1929
through 1934, outscoring its opponents by a total of 1,294 points to 140
points against; only 11 teams during this five year period managed to
cross Granville's goal line and of those, only three managed to score
more than seven points in a game; and
WHEREAS, Much of this success was due to the tutelage of Coach Sam
Eppolito, a physical and athletic instructor, who guided Granville's
thriving athletics program to excellence, particularly in football; and
WHEREAS, The Granville Golden Horde began the 1930 season with a 19-0
victory over Mechanicville, followed by a 37-0 rout of Hudson Falls and
a 20-0 win over Cambridge; they next cruised to an easy victory over
local powerhouse Glens Falls, and continued to post convincing wins over
Saratoga and Greenwich, as well as undefeated Whitehall; and
WHEREAS, At the end of the 1930 season, the Golden Horde held an unde-
feated record, having outscored their opponents 227-0 in nine games; and
WHEREAS, The 1933 Granville Golden Horde Football Team continued to
add to this winning tradition by opening their season with a resounding
40-0 victory over Glens Falls, followed by a 21-0 win over Hudson Falls,
and a 52-0 win over Fort Edward; in addition, they defeated Whitehall
6-0 to win in the annual showdown; and
WHEREAS, These remarkable athletes next defeated a team consisting of
RPI freshmen by a score of 20-0, and posted a 12-0 win over Mineville in
the regular-season finale; they next faced Cambridge in the title game
where they were victorious 40-0 in route to the championship; at the
conclusion of their undefeated season, Granville had outscored all oppo-
nents 191-0; and
WHEREAS, The Granville High School Football program experienced
further success in the years to come, although not to the same degree as
the teams in the early 1930s; the incredible legacy of these unbeatable
teams will continue to inspire Golden Horde players for many years to
come; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor the 1930 and 1933
Granville High School Football Teams for their extraordinary athletic
accomplishments which are a tribute to the skill, dedication and commit-
ment of these incredible athletes and coaches; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor the 1930 and 1933 Granville High School Foot-
ball Teams upon the occasion of their induction into the Capital
District Football Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Granville High School.
