LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicholas J. Faso upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Paul J. Curran Award for Pro Bono
Service by the Prisoners' Legal Services of New York
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas J. Faso has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Nicholas J.
Faso upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Paul J.
Curran Award for Pro Bono Service by the Prisoners' Legal Services of
New York; this momentous occasion was celebrated at its 4th Annual Pro
Bono Event on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at the Albany Barn, Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Paul J. Curran Award for Pro Bono Service was established
in honor of the late Paul J. Curran, who served as the Chairman of Pris-
oners' Legal Services' Board of Directors for more than a decade; this
auspicious award is presented to the volunteer who most embodies a
commitment to defending the rights of incarcerated New Yorkers by
providing pro bono services; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary young man has been called upon to contrib-
ute his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Originally from Kinderhook, New York, Nicholas J. Faso
attended The Albany Academy and Skidmore College; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas J. Faso graduated summa cum laude from Albany Law
School, during which time he was the Executive Editor for Symposium of
the ALBANY LAW REVIEW and an intern in the chambers of the Honorable
Lawrence E. Kahn, United States District Judge for the Northern District
of New York; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, in his final year, Nicholas J. Faso along with
his co-counsel were the winners of the Karen C. McGovern Senior Prize
Trials, a year-long trial advocacy competition; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas J. Faso is an Associate with Whiteman, Osterman &
Hanna, LLP, where his principal area of practice is commercial liti-
gations; he is admitted to practice in New York State, and is a member
of both the Albany County Bar Association and the New York State Bar
Association; and
WHEREAS, An avid volunteer, Nicholas J. Faso has provided pro bono
representation to prisoners challenging disciplinary determinations; he
also currently serves on the Boards of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and
the Albany Academy Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Nicholas J. Faso has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Nicholas J. Faso has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicholas J. Faso upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Paul J. Curran Award for Pro Bono Service by the Prisoners' Legal
Services of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas J. Faso.
