LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing and honoring Lindsay Park Housing
Corporation upon the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Lindsay Park
Houses

WHEREAS, Service to community is the foundation of our society, and the
contributions and future efforts of those in service to it are a vital
part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize and honor
Lindsay Park Housing Corporation upon the occasion of the 50th Anniver-
sary of Lindsay Park Houses to be celebrated August 29, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Completed in 1965, Lindsay Park is comprised of seven,
22-story complexes, offering a total of 2,700 units spanning 14 acres in
Williamsburg, Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Constructed by the Brooklyn-based builder George F. Driscoll
Company, Lindsay Park was designed by architects Kelly and Gruzan, who
also designed lower Manhattan's Chatham Towers, the city's first resi-
dential complexes built of exposed concrete poured on site; and
WHEREAS, Advertised as "Brooklyn's great new true middle-income apart-
ment cooperative," Lindsay Park is one of the more than 400 state-super-
vised developments to be built under the Limited Profit Housing Compa-
nies Act of 1955 enacted a decade earlier; and
WHEREAS, Known as Mitchell-Lama, after sponsors Senator MacNeil Mitc-
hell of Manhattan and Assemblyman Alfred Lama of Brooklyn, hundreds of
thousands of families have made complexes like 31 Leonard Street in
Lindsay Park their home as a result; and
WHEREAS, Housing 586 residents, Lindsay Park's 31 Leonard Street Hous-
es was identified as the most racially diverse residential complex in
the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Lindsay Park is owned by the Lindsay Park Housing Corporation
whose 21 board members manage the corporation's affairs; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when corpo-
rations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and honor Lindsay Park Housing Corporation upon the occasion
of the 50th Anniversary of Lindsay Park Houses; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lindsay Park Housing Corporation.
