LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating 14 individuals from New York State
Senate District No. 5 upon the occasion of their Graduation from the
Huntington Parent Leadership Initiative on June 16, 2015

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late 14 individuals from New York State Senate District No. 5 upon the
occasion of their Graduation from the Huntington Parent Leadership
Initiative, to be celebrated at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 16, 2015;
and
WHEREAS, More than two decades ago, the Parent Leadership Initiative
(PLI) program was established in the Town of Huntington; this vital
organization was designed to prepare parents from different ethnic and
economic backgrounds to assume leadership roles in their community; and
WHEREAS, PLI is based on the idea that the family is the heart of the
community, and parents can be their children's most important teachers,
as well as their strongest supporters; and
WHEREAS, These dedicated parents come together for a 16 to 20 week
program, exploring interests, concerns, strengths, and ideas; they work
together to develop interpersonal and public communication skills, gain-
ing an understanding of how to work with government, media, and civic
groups; and
WHEREAS, Participants of the program address important child care
issues such as health, quality schooling and neighborhood safety; each
class is guided by the previous graduating class, creating a growing
group of parents who work to improve their communities; and
WHEREAS, Graduates who successfully complete the program are then able
to join the Graduate Coalition, where they work on projects to help make
a difference in their Suffolk County Community; and
WHEREAS, The proud graduates from New York State Senate District No. 5
of the Huntington Parent Leadership Initiative are: Yvette Benitez, Tony
Crimaud, Robert DeAngelis, Alexis Delk, Aretha Delk, Laurie Francois,
Marcia Gachinad, Katherine Lynn Lopez, June Margolin, James McGoldrick,
Regina Robinson Davis, Ginette Rows, Lucien Saint Cyr, and Laci Satter-
field-Wright; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend individ-
uals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commitment
toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting as
role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and young people;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate 14 individuals from New York State Senate District No. 5
upon the occasion of their Graduation from the Huntington Parent Leader-
ship Initiative on June 16, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned graduates.
