LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 130th Anniversary of WCA Hospi-
tal of Jamestown, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
acknowledge certain exemplary organizations that continue to provide
superior services and support for residents, and through their work,
have become a beacon of hope, opportunity and prosperity within the
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 130th Anniversary of WCA Hospital in Jamestown, New York; and
WHEREAS, Chartered in 1885, the Women's Christian Association of New
York began as both a boarding house for young working women and a one-
room hospital for its residents and other sick or injured persons; and
WHEREAS, Today, WCA Hospital of Jamestown is Southwestern New York's
largest not-for-profit healthcare provider, offering an extensive range
of inpatient and outpatient acute and rehabilitation services; and
WHEREAS, The mission of WCA Hospital is to improve the health and
well-being of the people of Chautauqua County and the surrounding area
in a way that includes compassion, dedication, a commitment to quality
and patient safety, while maintaining economic viability and a vision
for the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, WCA Hospital is a major contributor to the region's economic
success, with over 1,300 residents making up the organization's employ-
ees, physicians and volunteers; total annual economic impact from the
hospital reaches $196,719,000, and the hospital reinvests more than
$5,278,671 into its facilities, equipment and technology; the hospital
generates more than $2 of economic return for every $1 it spends; and
WHEREAS, Among its historic accomplishments, the hospital received the
CEO Cancer Gold Standard Employer, recognizing its commitment to take
action reducing the cancer risk for families and employees through
screenings; WCA was the first hospital in the Southern Tier to perform a
new angioplasty procedure that treats peripheral artery disease using a
drug-coated balloon reopening clogged arteries; in 2014, WCA's clinical
laboratory retained the Gold Seal of Approval by the Joint Commission;
and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Betsy Wright, President/CEO, the
hospital has a daily impact on residents of the region as it assists
those in need and welcomes new lives into the world; last year, a total
of 7,125 people had inpatient stays, 35,770 people visited the emergency
room, 274,136 people received outpatient procedures, and 699 newborns
were birthed at WCA; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those organizations that have achieved notable success and have
contributed to the betterment of the residents of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 130th Anniversary of WCA Hospital in Jamestown, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Betsy Wright, President/CEO, WCA Hospital.
