LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Maimonides Cancer Center upon the
occasion of celebrating its 10th Anniversary on June 9, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those organizations of long-standing concerned commitment who have
faithfully served in the delivery of medical services to the citizens of
the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Maimonides Cancer Center upon the occasion of celebrating its 10th
Anniversary to be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the LeFrak Center in
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, An estimated 11,000 people in Brooklyn are diagnosed every
year with some form of cancer, and the Maimonides Cancer Center stands
ready to help families through the entire process, with all vital
services under one roof; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Maimonides Medical Center created the nation's very
first "Day Hospital" for outpatient chemotherapy; since then, it has
proudly continued this tradition of innovation, as well as its dedi-
cation to providing the best possible care; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, Maimonides Medical Center opened the Maimonides
Cancer Center, Brooklyn's first dedicated cancer center; and
WHEREAS, Today, Maimonides Cancer Center provides an entire array of
care services, including diagnosis, treatment and supportive services
for children and adults; in addition, this esteemed medical institution
offers educational outreach and cancer screening to members of the
community; and
WHEREAS, As the demand for its world-class services continues to grow,
Maimonides Cancer Center recently expanded into a new state-of-the-art
building, the Gilbert Rivera Pavilion, in order to better serve its
patients; and
WHEREAS, This milestone would not be possible without the support of a
great community and the numerous contributions of its highly talented
professionals who have worked to fulfill Maimonides Cancer Center's
commitment to excellence in health care; and
WHEREAS, Maimonides Cancer Center's distinguished record merits the
recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those medical
institutions who enhance the well-being and vitality of their communi-
ties and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Maimonides Cancer Center upon the occasion of celebrating
its 10th Anniversary on June 9, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Maimonides Cancer Center.
