LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sister Rose Torma, CSJ, Principal of
Saint Stanislaus Kostka School, upon the auspicious occasion of her
retirement
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those among
us who selflessly contribute to the fabric of their communities, often
dedicating decades of their life to noble efforts designed to improve
the lives of others and create an enduring legacy of positive social
progress; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rose Torma, who has served as Principal of Saint Stan-
islaus Kostka School in Maspeth, Queens, for 33 years, will be retiring
from this vital and distinguished position on August 15, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rose Torma was born in East New York, Brooklyn, raised
in Queens Village, Queens, and began working at Saint Stanislaus Kostka
School in 1982, where she continued to serve even after moving to Nassau
County and assuming a much longer commute to her beloved school in
Maspeth and the children in her care; and
WHEREAS, The extensive educational background of Sister Rose Torma
includes her attendance at St. Malachy's School in Brooklyn; Saints
Joachim and Anne School in Queens Village; Sacred Heart Academy in
Brentwood, New York; St. John's University; the State University of New
York at New Paltz; and Manhattan College; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rose Torma entered the Community of the Sisters of
Saint Joseph in Brentwood, New York, and graduated from Brentwood
College, a Sister Formation College, and also received a Master's degree
from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and professional New
York State certification in School Administration and Supervision from
Manhattan College; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rose Torma began her teaching career at Most Precious
Blood School in Long Island City; she also taught at Saint Bernard
School in Levittown and Saint Benedict Joseph Labre School in Richmond
Hill; and
WHEREAS, Following her professional certification in School Adminis-
tration and Supervision, Sister Rose Torma became an Administrator in
our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, before coming
to Saint Stanislaus Kostka School 33 years ago; and
WHEREAS, In her more than three decades as Principal of Saint Stanis-
laus Kostka School, Sister Rose Torma has touched the lives of many
students, parents, teachers and other members of the Saint Stanislaus
Kostka School and parish family in any number of positive ways; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure at Saint Stanislaus Kostka School,
Sister Rose Torma has been in the forefront of helping her pupils to
advance academically and spiritually, and has worked tirelessly during
difficult times to ensure the school's financial stability; and
WHEREAS, Sister Rose Torma is to be congratulated and commended for
her 33 years of commitment and dedication to the Saint Stanislaus Kostka
School and parish, as well as her pledge to continue volunteering in the
religious community in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Rose Torma upon the occasion of her retirement from her
cherished "St. Stan's School" on August 15, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Rose Torma, CSJ.
