LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 35th Anniversary of Gramma
Mora's Mexican Restaurant in Buffalo, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 35th Anniversary of Grandma Mora's Mexican Restaurant in
Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Over a century ago, the Mora family emigrated from Mexico to
the United States bringing with them the warmth of their homeland and a
love for their family's traditional recipes; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, Charlie and Liz Mora opened their first stand-alone
restaurant on Niagara Street in Buffalo, New York, to help Western New
Yorkers experience their treasured family recipes which have been handed
down through generations; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Gramma Mora's became the subject of numerous
glowing articles and tremendous positive word of mouth for its delicious
Mexican food and fast, friendly service; and
WHEREAS, As its popularity continued to grow, Gramma Mora's expanded
its facilities to accommodate the ever increasing number of customers;
the restaurant also launched its own line of frozen food specialties
which can still be purchased today; and
WHEREAS, In July of 1996, Gramma Mora's was struck by a devastating
fire which left very little behind; its owners decided to move to Hertel
Avenue in the North Buffalo business district where the restaurant was
reborn; it quickly becoming a neighborhood favorite, as well as a vital
source of employment for the local community; and
WHEREAS, During their illustrious 35 years of restaurant ownership,
owners Liz and Charlie Mora raised three children, Charlie, Vincent, the
Bar Manager at the restaurant, and Elizabeth; and
WHEREAS, Today, Gramma Mora's remains dedicated to preparing food in
the same old fashioned way with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and
authenticity in a traditional family setting; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Gramma Mora's
Mexican Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional business and its contributions to the local and
State economies, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced over the past 35 years; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 35th Anniversary of Gramma Mora's Mexican Restaurant;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Liz and Charlie Mora, Gramma Mora's Mexican Restaurant.
