LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Christine Riederer upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and
Niagara County Music Educators Association Award for Excellence in Music
Education

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
music instructors within our schools who distinguish themselves through
their ability to inspire their students to achieve excellence in musical
performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Christine Riederer upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Niagara County Music Educators
Association Award for Excellence in Music Education; and
WHEREAS, A native of Detroit, Michigan, Christine Riederer has felt a
strong connection to music from a young age; as a young woman, she spent
six summers studying at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan and one summer
at Boston's Tanglewood Institute; and
WHEREAS, Christine Riederer received a dual Bachelor's degree in Trum-
pet Performance and Music Education from the University of Michigan,
followed by a Master of Music Education degree from Bowling Green State
University; and
WHEREAS, Following the completion of her studies, Christine Riederer
taught band and orchestra in Ohio and Michigan, along with trumpet at
the Interlochen Arts Camp; and
WHEREAS, For the past 21 years, this esteemed music educator has
taught at Niagara-Wheatfield High School where she conducts the concert
and symphonic bands, and teaches music theory and instrumental lessons;
and
WHEREAS, Christine Riederer's bands have consistently received top
honors at music competitions and festivals; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding performer, Christine Riederer has played with
the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Erie County Wind Ensemble, and the
Buffalo Silver Cornet Band, as well as the Clarence, Amherst, and Cheek-
towaga Symphonies; she has also played various shows at Shea's, Artpark
and the Riviera Theatre; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Christine Riederer has guest conducted the
ECMEA-JH South All-County Band, and has served as chairperson for the SH
Area All-State Band and SH-All County Bands over the years; and
WHEREAS, Music study is most worthy of being encouraged and promoted,
as it provides an opportunity for students to exhibit their skills to an
audience, thereby giving them self-esteem to last a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when music
educators of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Christine Riederer upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Niagara County Music
Educators Association Award for Excellence in Music Education; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Christine Riederer.
