LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rosalyn Magidson upon the occasion of
her retirement after 25 years of distinguished service to the Dispute
Resolution Center on June 30, 2015
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Rosalyn Magidson upon the occasion of her retirement after 25 years of
distinguished service to the Dispute Resolution Center, to be celebrated
at a party held in her honor on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Kuhl's High-
land House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, Serving Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster Counties, the
Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) is dedicated to promoting the peaceful
resolution of conflict by providing conflict resolution services, educa-
tion, training, and consultation; while the agency is a leading resource
for the effective and constructive prevention, management and resolution
of conflict in the Mid-Hudson Valley and lower Catskill area, DRC has
also distinguished itself for its contribution to the work of the broad-
er Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) community; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1981, DRC provides a wide range of services
and programs, including mediation, conciliation, group facilitation and
arbitration; these processes are applicable to a broad range of family,
youth, school, housing, and business conflicts; additionally, DRC is
also a leading resource for training and workshops designed to both
educate the public and to develop and maintain its volunteer panel; and
WHEREAS, Rosalyn "Roz" Magidson earned her bachelor's degrees in both
Communication and Education from the University of Michigan Schools of
Journalism and Education; she furthered her education by obtaining her
master's degree in Public Administration from Marist College in 2001;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, Roz Magidson rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Dispute Resolution Center; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her employment at the Dispute Resolution Center, Roz
Magidson held the position of Executive Director of the Orange County
American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, Roz Magidson began her career with the Dispute Resolution
Center in 1990, holding the esteemed position of Executive Director; in
this capacity, her leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm have made
lasting contributions to the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution
(ADR); and
WHEREAS, Roz Magidson also holds the title of Lead Trainer, approved
by the New York State Unified Court System's Community Dispute Resol-
ution Centers Program; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Roz Magidson served as both past President and
Board member of New York State Dispute Resolution Association, Inc.
(NYSDRA); she was also a member of several vital organizations, includ-
ing the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the Association of
Conflict Resolution, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts,
and the National Association for Community Mediation; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, Roz Magidson was honored by NYSDRA as the recipient
of The Lawrence Cooke Peace Innovate Award, given to an individual or
organization which provides innovative leadership in ADR; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Roz Magidson was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Dr. Donald Magid-
son, and their children, as well as their grandchildren, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Dispute Resolution Center, Roz
Magidson earned the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rosalyn Magidson upon the occasion of her retirement after 25
years of distinguished service, and to wish her continued success in all
of her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rosalyn Magidson.
