LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Courtney Dearnley upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Columbia County High School Youth
Leadership Award by the Columbia County Youth Bureau on May 7, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to act, in accordance
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Courtney Dearnley upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Columbia County High School Youth Leadership Award by the Columbia
County Youth Bureau, celebrated at its 19th Annual Awards Ceremony on
Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Hudson Elks Lodge; and
WHEREAS, For 35 years, the Columbia County Youth Bureau has done an
excellent job of planning, coordinating, and supplementing activities
for the youth of the county; one of their objectives is to recognize
outstanding young men and women who are role models to their peers and
deserve to be honored for their leadership, good works, and commitment
to their community; and
WHEREAS, Nominated by her High School Counselor, Courtney Dearnley is
a Junior at Taconic High School; this outstanding young woman is a
member of several agricultural organizations at her school, including
4H, New York State Holstein Association Junior Member, Farm Bureau
Junior Member, and Columbia County Dairy Committee Junior Member; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Courtney Dearnley holds the position of Vice
President of the Eastern New York Junior Holstein Club, and was the New
York State Junior Dairy Leader for the Class of 2014-2015; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional student, Courtney Dearnley is a member of the
National Honor Society, and is ranked within the top 10% of her class,
as well as consistently earning a place on the High Honor Roll; and
WHEREAS, Courtney Dearnley participates on both the Varsity Basketball
and Cross Country teams, and is a member of the SADD Club and Student
Council; currently, she serves as the Class of 2016 Treasurer, and
mentors fourth grade students; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the well-being of her community, Courtney Dearn-
ley volunteers her time and energies to various activities including
serving as a Lector at Our Lady of Hope Church, bringing a calf for
children to pet at summer park programs, and making Thanksgiving food
baskets at the Hillsdale Fire House; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young woman also assists at fifth and sixth
grade basketball tournaments, the Taconic Hills Spring Into Learning
Open House, and Copake Parks Easter Egg Hunt, as well as the Taconic
Hills Little League Concession Stands; and
WHEREAS, Courtney Dearnley is a credit to her family, school, communi-
ty, and her State and Nation, and it is certain that her future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Courtney Dearnley upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Columbia County High School Youth Leadership Award by the
Columbia County Youth Bureau; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Courtney Dearnley.
