LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Delana Bonci upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Columbia County Middle School Youth
Leadership Award by the Columbia County Youth Bureau on May 7, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to act, in accordance
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Delana Bonci upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Columbia County Middle School Youth Leadership Award by the Columbia
County Youth Bureau, celebrated at its 19th Annual Awards Ceremony on
Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Hudson Elks Lodge; and
WHEREAS, For 35 years, the Columbia County Youth Bureau has done an
excellent job of planning, coordinating, and supplementing activities
for the youth of the county; one of their objectives is to recognize
outstanding young men and women who are role models to their peers and
deserve to be honored for their leadership, good works, and commitment
to their community; and
WHEREAS, Nominated by her Middle School Counselor, Delana Bonci is in
the seventh grade at Taconic Hills Middle School; this outstanding young
woman was a Girl Scout for six years, and participates in the Columbia
County 4H Club, as well as the New York State Senate Youth Advisory
Committee; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Delana Bonci was elected President of the Tacon-
ic Hills Elementary School Student Council in 2013-2014; in this capaci-
ty, she implemented new cafeteria lunches on behalf of her fellow
students, and addressed school cafeteria health concerns; and
WHEREAS, Delana Bonci is actively involved in many sports programs,
including Taconic Hills Youth Soccer and Basketball, Taconic Hills
Little League, and both softball and field hockey; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional student, Delana Bonci was the recipient of
numerous educational awards such as the President's GOLD Education
Excellence Award, the Science Fair Top 10 Award, and top average awards
in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and Physical Educa-
tion; in addition, she has consistently earned a place on the High Honor
Roll since 2013; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the well-being of her community, Delana Bonci
volunteers her time and energies to various activities including carol-
ing at the Pine Haven Nursing Home, and collecting and donating
resources to the Columbia Greene Humane Society; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Delana Bonci was actively involved in many
fundraising efforts for worthy causes such as Out of the Darkness, and
awareness for Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, and Breast Cancer; and
WHEREAS, Delana Bonci is a credit to her family, school, community,
and her State and Nation, and it is certain that her future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Delana Bonci upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Columbia County Middle School Youth Leadership Award by the Columbia
County Youth Bureau; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Delana Bonci.
