LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Amalia Bango upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Amalia DeCrescenzo, affectionately known as Molly, was born
on July 25, 1915, to Italian immigrants Antonio and Theresa Malone
DeCrescenzo on Hulin Street in Mechanicville, New York; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Molly DeCrescenzo was raised alongside her five brothers,
Frank, Alex, Elpidio, Joseph and Anthony, as well as three sisters,
Philomena, Thomasina and Rosina; and
WHEREAS, Growing up during the Roaring Twenties with little money and
few jobs, Molly DeCrescenzo quit school and went to work to help support
her family when her mother fell ill; she worked at the Stillwater Knit-
ting Mill until 1937, when she went to the Korell Dress Company in
Mechanicville; and
WHEREAS, On June 28, 1941, Molly DeCresenzo married Joseph F. Bango,
and less than one year later he entered military service with the United
States Army; while he was away at war, Molly began working at Schenecta-
dy General Electric on a punch press, making parts for submarine motors;
and
WHEREAS, During this time, with a deep and abiding faith in God, Molly
Bango spent each and every morning at the Church of the Assumption pray-
ing for her loved ones; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of World War II, Molly Bango returned to
Korell Dress Company, and soon after, she and her loving husband started
a family; their daughter, Amor, was born in February of 1950, followed
by their son, Joseph Michael, in September of 1952; and
WHEREAS, A tradition Molly Bango continues to hold dear to her heart
is weekly Sunday dinner after church; she has become legendary for her
homemade cavatelli, and continues to cook her favorite Italian special-
ties each week, welcoming her family which today includes five grand-
daughters and one grandson; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Amalia Bango upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Amalia Bango.
