LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending George J. Fontaine upon the occasion
of his designation as Grand Marshal of the Annual Waterford Memorial Day
Parade on May 20, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens of the State of New York who
devote their lifework and civic endeavor in service to their community,
adding to the character and quality of life for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, George J. Fontaine is a fitting choice for Grand Marshal of
the Annual Waterford Memorial Day Parade, for he embodies the spirit and
the cherished ideals and values of this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
George J. Fontaine upon the occasion of his designation as Grand Marshal
of the Annual Waterford Memorial Day Parade, celebrated on Wednesday,
May 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1927, George J. Fontaine proudly served his country
as a member of the United States Navy; at the young age of 17, he was
assigned to the USS McCord, San Diego, California, and was deployed
during World War II to the Pacific Fleet in time for operations in both
the Marshall Islands and Marianas, as well as continuous action through-
out the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa campaigns; and
WHEREAS, This valiant Marine received several awards and accolades for
his dedicated military service, including the American Theater Medal,
the WWII Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with one
star; and
WHEREAS, Memorial Day is a time when we recall those who have gone
before us and sleep the sleep of peace; and the observance brings to our
minds and hearts the memory of our deceased family and friends and how
much they meant to us; and
WHEREAS, Memorial Day is also a day of remembrance for the deceased
veterans of our Armed Services; and in remembering our deceased veter-
ans, we recall their brave and noble deeds that, in more than 200 years
of existence of the United States, have served to preserve our most
precious freedoms; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend George J. Fontaine upon the occasion of his designation as Grand
Marshal of the Annual Waterford Memorial Day Parade; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to George J. Fontaine.
