LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Down-
town Alliance
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 20th Anniversary of the Downtown Alliance; and
WHEREAS, Since 1995, under Chair Robert R. Douglass, the Alliance for
Downtown New York has become one of the premier civic organizations in
the City of New York; and
WHEREAS, Guided by the leadership of Carl Weisbrod, Eric Deutsch,
Elizabeth H. Berger, and Jessica Lappin, the Alliance for Downtown New
York has been working to enhance the quality of life in Lower Manhattan
by providing workers, residents, and visitors with a clean, safe and
dynamic neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, The Alliance for Downtown New York is the city's largest
business improvement group, providing a model of how to serve residents
and visitors alike; and
WHEREAS, The Alliance has invested in its community in both the short-
and long-term, in myriad ways, whether free transportation, community
advocacy, or innovative planning studies; and
WHEREAS, The Downtown Alliance has been a tireless advocate for Sandy
recovery and relief on the city, state, and federal levels; and
WHEREAS, The Downtown Alliance was instrumental in the shaping,
visioning, and rebuilding of Lower Manhattan after the 9/11 attacks; and
WHEREAS, The Lower Manhattan community is better, stronger, and more
resilient thanks to the leadership and commitment to the community shown
for 20 tumultuous years by the Downtown Alliance; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those individ-
uals and organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of
their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excel-
lence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body recog-
nizes the many contributions of the Downtown Alliance, and wishes this
worthy organization continued success in its proactive mission to bene-
fit the communities it represents; and
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Downtown Alliance; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Downtown Alliance.
