LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice, R.S.M. upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Teresian Faith, Hope
and Courage Award by the Teresian House Foundation on July 30, 2015
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals and organizations which
distinguish themselves through their unremitting commitment and service
to humanity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sister Mary
Ann LoGiudice, R.S.M. upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Teresian Faith, Hope and Courage Award by the Teresian House
Foundation, to be celebrated at its 25th Anniversary Gala on Thursday,
July 30, 2015, at the Saratoga National Golf Club, Saratoga Springs, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Teresian House is a 300 bed, non-profit home for the elderly
in the Capital District, sponsored by the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese
and served by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice's
dedicated service to Community Maternity Services, an agency of Catholic
Charities of the Diocese of Albany, founded in 1971; this vital organ-
ization acts as a full spectrum family support services agency which
provides a continuum of services, both residential and community-based;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the Albany Diocese, Community Maternity Services
works to provide assistance for pregnant and parenting teenage girls and
their infants and toddlers, children in need of foster care and adoptive
homes, and families seeking to adopt children, as well as families in
crisis; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann LoGuidice attended Maria College, and earned her
Bachelor's degree in Education from The College of St. Rose; she
furthered her education by obtaining her Master's degree in Human
Services from Russell Sage College; and
WHEREAS, Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice has been a Sister of Mercy since
1965; she has spent the past 37 years of her professional life at Commu-
nity Maternity Services, initially serving as the Residential Director
of the Maternity Center, before holding several other positions, such as
in 1990, when she was promoted to Executive Director of Community Mater-
nity Services; and
WHEREAS, Under Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice's luminous direction, Commu-
nity Maternity Services has provided compassionate, effective inter-
vention, and services for pregnant and parenting adolescents, vulnerable
children, and at-risk families in order to foster personal growth,
preserve families, and provide access to health, educational, and social
services; and
WHEREAS, Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice has touched the lives of countless
young mothers and children, such as Barbara, a child living with
HIV/AIDS whom she adopted in 1987; she lived with Sister Mary Ann LoGi-
udice for six years before passing away in 1993; and
WHEREAS, This profound experience led Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice to
author an inspiring book, entitled THAT PLACE CALLED HOME, about her
relationship with her beloved daughter; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has been a member of various committees
and boards over the last 30 years, including the Support Ministries for
Persons with AIDS, the Community AIDS Partnership of the Capital Region,
and the Names Project; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice, R.S.M. upon the occasion of her desig-
nation as recipient of the Teresian Faith, Hope and Courage Award by the
Teresian House Foundation on July 30, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Mary Ann LoGiudice, R.S.M.
