LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kaseem Moultrie upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 President's Award by the Capital
District Area Labor Federation on June 18, 2015
WHEREAS, Labor unions, through the integrity and dedication of their
leadership, have assumed an essential and integral role in ensuring the
welfare, safety and economic stability of the workers of this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the efforts of those individuals who distinguish themselves in
service to the cause of working men and women in the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kaseem Moultrie upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2015 President's Award by the Capital District Area Labor Federation, to
be celebrated at its 10th Annual Appreciation Gala on Thursday, June 18,
2015, at The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Queens, New York, Kaseem Moultrie moved to Albany,
New York, in 1998; employed as a housekeeper at Whitney Young Health
Center in Arbor Hill, he became a member of SEIU Local 200 United; and
WHEREAS, Kaseem Moultrie's passion for getting involved in the labor
movement and the community was sparked by his hope that one day he would
be able to support his wife and four children by working for fair wages
and benefits, and not relying on public assistance; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the past 14 years, Kaseem Moultrie has diligently
worked on various campaigns, such as raising the minimum wage in New
York State from $5.15 an hour, to where it is today, $8.75 an hour; and
WHEREAS, Kaseem Moultrie has proudly assisted hundreds of Upstate New
York workers gain their recognition as a Union with SEIU Local 200
United, immensely improving their lives; and
WHEREAS, Most recently, Kaseem Moultrie was elected to the position of
Recording Secretary of SEIU Local 200 United; and
WHEREAS, Kaseem Moultrie truly lives by his mantra that "in order to
obtain the things that we need as working men and women, we must stand
united publicly and voice our concerns in order to make the improvements
that we would like to see"; and
WHEREAS, Fighting for social and economic justice is a way of life for
Kaseem Moultrie; he has rendered dedicated, faithful, conscientious and
valuable service to the Capital District Area Labor Federation, serving
with loyalty, honor and distinction; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kaseem Moultrie upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2015 President's Award by the Capital District Area Labor Feder-
ation on June 18, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kaseem Moultrie.
