LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Miriam L. Mincieli upon the occa-
sion of her 100th Birthday on July 25, 2015

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Miriam
L. Mincieli of Lake Peekskill, New York, upon the occasion of her 100th
Birthday on July 25, 2015, to be celebrated with a party held on July
23, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Miriam L. Mincieli was born on July 25, 1915, the oldest
child of Ida Walter and William Steyer; she grew up in the South Bronx
where her father was a well respected local butcher; and
WHEREAS, In 1932, Miriam L. Mincieli's mother purchased a summer home
in Putnam Valley, New York, where she enjoyed spending summers since the
age of 16; and
WHEREAS, Miriam L. Steyer married Victor Mincieli in 1954, and togeth-
er, they were the loving parents of two daughters, Susan and Frances;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman was employed with the Department of Parks
in the Bronx for 33 years, where she rendered faithful, conscientious
and valuable service until her retirement in 1970; and
WHEREAS, After beginning construction on a Putnam County home in 1950,
Miriam L. Mincieli moved permanently to this area in 1977, where she
became an avid gardener; and
WHEREAS, During this time, she went on many adventures with her mother
driving a 1929 pickup truck to Maine, and returning with up to 1500
evergreen saplings; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by these wonderful trips, Miriam L. Mincieli began
running a small nursery in Putnam County; many of the evergreen trees
planted throughout the area are a result of her tremendous efforts; and
WHEREAS, A vital part of her community, Miriam L. Mincieli has been an
active bowler, a Cornell Master Gardener for many years, and a member of
both the Putnam Valley Garden Club and the Park Central Hotel Track and
Field Team; and
WHEREAS, Miriam L. Mincieli has also spent many hours raising champion
Gordon Setters while tending her evergreen farm, and painting with oils
and pastels; a significant number of her art works are on display at the
Putnam Valley Senior Center; and
WHEREAS, In her lifetime, Miriam L. Mincieli witnessed many important
milestones in our Nation's history including two World Wars, legislation
giving women the right to vote, Prohibition, the Great Depression, man's
first footsteps on the moon, and the advent of the computer age; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Miriam L. Mincieli upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Miriam L. Mincieli.
