LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Fayetteville-Manlius Boys
Varsity Cross Country Team upon the occasion of winning the 2014 Nike
Cross Nationals
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive athletics can be achieved
only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline, and a
dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride to their
school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to hereby
recognize and congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Cross
Country Team upon the occasion of winning the 2014 Nike Cross Nationals;
and
WHEREAS, On December 6, 2014, the Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity
Cross Country Team dominated the Nike Cross Nationals at Glendoveer Golf
Course in Portland, Oregon, with an overall final race time of 16:03,
defeating 21 other seven-person teams that had qualified for the race
via regional competitions; and
WHEREAS, The Nike-sponsored course, with obstacles, rolling hills and
tree-lined fairways, delivered a classic interpretation of Pacific
Northwest's storied running environments in front of an enthusiastic
crowd that included Nike elites Galen Rupp, Shalane Flanagan, Mary Cain
and Evan Jager; and
WHEREAS, The Nike Cross Nationals win was the Fayetteville-Manlius
Boys Varsity Cross Country Team's first team title in the 11th annual
competition sponsored by Nike; and
WHEREAS, Making the win even more momentous was that the Fayette-
ville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team also captured the 2014
Nike Cross Nationals title, which marked the first time that two teams
from the same school swept the competition in the same year; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without talent throughout its entire
roster, as is the case for the Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Cross
Country Team whose runners include: Bryce Millar, Peter Ryan, Kyle
Barber, Adam Hunt, Riley Hughes, Joseph Walters, and Jon Abbott; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent, and drive to win, displayed by the
Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Cross Country Team is in great part
due to the efforts of Head Coach Bill Aris, and Assistant Coaches,
Marnie Carter and Dave Davis, all of whom are respected mentors for
their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding members of the
Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Cross Country Team proved to be a
terrific combination of talent, skill and dedication during the entire
season; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Cross
Country Team upon winning the 2014 Nike Cross Nationals; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity Cross
Country Team, Head Coach Bill Aris, and Assistant Coaches, Marnie Carter
and Dave Davis.
