LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Bukha-
rian Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills, New York
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of The Bukharian Jewish Center of Kew Gardens
Hills, New York, to be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the
Royal Elite Palace Catering Hall, Woodside, New York; and
WHEREAS, Religious organizations which serve the interests of the
people of this Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative
Body; and
WHEREAS, The Bukharian Jewish Center provides religious, educational,
cultural, and social events for over 2000 community members and congre-
gants of the synagogue; it also supports and promotes educational
programs in Russian, Bukharian, Hebrew, and English languages; and
WHEREAS, The Bukharian Jewish Center ministers to the infirm and
elderly, provides marriage and family counseling, and offers assistance
for troubled youth; the Center also works closely with its elected offi-
cials and various organizations to voice concerns and interests of the
Kew Gardens Hills community; and
WHEREAS, Daily prayer services are conducted five times a day, and
social events are organized for women and the entire family; once a
month, The Bukharian Jewish Center hosts a Two Hearts as One Couples
event, devoted to parenting, relationship, and other nurturing topics;
and
WHEREAS, A workshop was presented to teach the art of effective commu-
nication and gave engaged and married couples practical tools to achieve
their maximum potential; and
WHEREAS, The Bukharian Jewish Center also holds annual Chizuk Shabba-
tons where singles, couples, and families come together for an inspira-
tional Shabbat filled with Torah learning and new insights into Judaism;
recently, a father and son learning program was introduced; and
WHEREAS, Daily Torah teachings are available, and ministry is avail-
able to local college campuses, engaging interested students with
lectures on topics of their choice; and
WHEREAS, Monthly, The Bukharian Jewish Center's food pantry serves
over 6,500 people, and volunteers distribute more than 2,000 food pack-
ages; and
WHEREAS, The Bukharian Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills has main-
tained its integral mission to enrich the Jewish life and the total
Jewish community by developing and implementing programs for the recre-
ational, educational, cultural, and social needs of the community, and
by doing so, stimulates and amplifies in individuals their sense of
responsibility to the local community and society as a whole, being
guided by the principles of Judaism and democracy, and creating an
atmosphere especially congenial to Jewish thought, beliefs and values;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of The Bukharian Jewish Center of Kew
Gardens Hills; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Bukharian Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills, New York.
