LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Valma Eisma upon the occasion of her
retirement after 26 years of distinguished service to the Town of Gosh-
en, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens who demonstrate great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communi-
ties and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Valma Eisma upon the occasion of her retirement after more than 26 years
of distinguished service to the Town of Goshen, New York; she officially
retired on Friday, December 18, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Born in Maybrook, New York, Valma "Val" Eisma grew up in
Goshen alongside her parents and 10 siblings; her family owned the
former Miller's Restaurant on Main Street which she ran for a short
time; and
WHEREAS, As a young woman, Valma Eisma worked in a variety of fields
including a teacher's aide in the Goshen High School Math Department; a
teller at Key Bank; and a receptionist at Inspire, the C.P. Center; as
well as a real estate agent for Joseph Green Realtors; and
WHEREAS, For the past 26 years, Valma Eisma has ably served her commu-
nity as a public servant at the Goshen Town Hall, occupying such impor-
tant roles as Secretary to the Planning Board and Recreation Commission,
and Deputy Town Clerk and Tax Collector; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, for the past 12 years,
Valma Eisma has held the position of Goshen Town Clerk, where she has
been at the forefront of responding to the ever-changing needs and
priorities of the citizens of her community; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious tenure, Valma Eisma has expertly
fulfilled the various wide-ranging responsibilities of her office while
displaying the tremendous kindness and humility which is her hallmark;
and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Valma Eisma was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; earn-
ing her the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her three children, and three
grandsons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when civic
leaders of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Valma Eisma upon the occasion of her retirement after 26 years of
distinguished service to the Town of Goshen, New York, and to wish her
the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Valma Eisma.
