LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dorothy and Curran Wade upon the
occasion of their retirement after 27 years of distinguished service to
WYBG Radio
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their listeners;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dorothy and Curran Wade upon the occasion of their retirement after
27 years of distinguished service to WYBG Radio; and
WHEREAS, The last day of operation for the local station that began
beaming its signal 57 years ago under the call sign WSTS out of the
former Slavin's building was on Tuesday, June 30, 2015; for nearly three
decades, it has been under the local ownership and operation of Dorothy
and Curran Wade of Wade Communications, Inc., with its studio located at
24 Andrews Street in Massena, New York; and
WHEREAS, Curran Wade has been in the broadcasting business for 61
years, including 50 in New York State, and 27 of which have been with
WYBG alongside his wife, Dorothy M. Wade, affectionately known as
Dottie; and
WHEREAS, An Alabama native, Curran Wade graduated from the University
of Alabama where he studied communications and was captain of the foot-
ball team; he began his illustrious career at an educational television
station, working his way up to Operations Manager; and
WHEREAS, Following a stint in the United States Army in which he
broadcast sports, weather and children's shows for the American Forces
Korean Network, Curran Wade worked in Mobile, Alabama, and a station
outside of Chicago prior to taking a job at a television station in
Jamestown, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy and Curran Wade then relocated to Gouverneur, New
York, where Curran served as Advertising Director for Kinney Drugs
before starting his own advertising agency; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Dorothy and Curran Wade established Wade Communi-
cations, Inc., and purchased what previously had been a music station,
keeping with the music format for a while before deciding to make a
switch to talk radio; over the years, listeners found various talk
shows, as well as national, regional and local news coverage; and
WHEREAS, In addition to live weather updates and shows about history,
trivia, automobiles, computers, homes, pets, travel and health, under
the able leadership of Dorothy and Curran Wade, the station also
featured such sports as Syracuse University football and basketball, and
Major League Baseball; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy and Curran Wade served WYBG 1050 AM with loyalty,
honor and distinction for 27 years, earning the admiration, esteem and
affection of their colleagues and the community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy and Curran Wade have, throughout their careers and
purposeful lives, served their community with integrity and devotion,
continuously striving to meet the needs of their listeners through
entertainment and enlightenment; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dorothy and Curran Wade upon the occasion of their retire-
ment after 27 years of distinguished service to WYBG Radio; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dorothy and Curran Wade.
