LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Christina M. Schwartzentruber upon
the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation area vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Christina M. Martin was born on July 31, 1915, to Barbara and
Andrew Martin; her loving family helped celebrate this momentous occa-
sion at a party held in her honor at Good O'Wishy's, Croghan, New York,
on Saturday, August 1, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Martinsburg Historical Society commemorated
Christina's 100th Birthday by hosting the 10th Mountain Division Band
Concert on Saturday, August 8, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable centenarian grew up on the family farm and
attended country schools until the eighth grade; and
WHEREAS, On April 18, 1934, Christina M. Martin, affectionately known
as Tiny, married her husband, John M. Schwartzentruber in Lowville, New
York; through the years, the couple had four children, whom Christina
relished nurturing and caring for; and
WHEREAS, In addition to raising her family, Christina M. Schwartzen-
truber helped on their farm and enjoyed reading, knitting and crochet-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to her community, Christina M. Schwartzentruber was a
vital member of the Pine Grove Mennonite Church, Naumburg, New York, and
an active participant of the Martinsburg Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, Along with her deceased husband, John M. Schwartzentruber,
and her son, Allyn R., with her throughout have been her three children,
Milford J., Roger A., and Nelsen K. (Bernadine), and her three grand-
children, as well as her three great-grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Christina M. Schwartzentruber upon the occasion of her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Christina M. Schwartzentruber.
