LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Whal-
lonsburgh Grange Hall on September 13, 2015

WHEREAS, New York State and the entire United States are dependent on
our farming industry for a variety of food products; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious agricultural organizations within the State of New York
whose focus and intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of
life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall, to be
celebrated with a Block Party on Sunday, September 13, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Whallonsburgh Grange Hall was built by Grange PoH Chapter
954 in 1915, during which time the hall served as a central meeting
place for the agricultural community of Essex, New York; in the build-
ing, farmers held dances, weddings, suppers, lyceums, discussions and
other events; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall has been renovated to
include a state-of-the-art film theatre and community kitchen; it is the
home to Champlain Valley Film Society, and the venue for many theatre
productions including the Boquet River Theatre Festival, musical
performances, visiting artists, classes and workshops of all kinds; and
WHEREAS, More than just a structure, the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall has
served as the heart of this rural community for 100 years; and
WHEREAS, During its long and storied history, the Whallonsburgh Grange
Hall has helped foster and support interest in agricultural affairs,
community progress and strong family values; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this vital organization continues to encourage
interest in agricultural life among the residents of the region through
its work to advance numerous educational programs, progressive legisla-
tive agendas and wholesome participation by the youth of the community;
and
WHEREAS, The success of the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall is in direct
correlation to the efforts of the many individuals who have supported
the development of this outstanding organization over the years; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall on
September 13, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall.
