LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jack Henry Gerard Rose posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack Henry
Gerard Rose posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by
the New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born on September 13, 1996, in Monterey, California, the son
of Gary and Linda (Himberger) Rose, Jack grew up in Saugerties, New
York, and attended St. Mary's of the Snow Elementary before graduating
in 2014 from John A. Coleman High School in Kingston, New York; and
WHEREAS, Jack Rose was an honor student throughout high school, a
member of the National Honor Society and a varsity member of both the
golf and tennis teams; and
WHEREAS, With a strong belief in the community, Jack Rose was an
active member of the Mt. Marion Fire Department, where he fulfilled his
life-long dream of becoming a firefighter; he valiantly served for more
than three years and was recently elected to the esteemed rank of
Captain; and
WHEREAS, Jack Rose was a rare and fiercely loyal young man; his level
of commitment extended to his family, firehouse, friends, studies and
community; from a young age, he made it known that firefighting was his
absolute passion; and
WHEREAS, Jack Henry Gerard Rose, died at the age of 19 on Saturday,
December 19, 2015, as a result of injuries sustained in a firefighting
incident; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his parents, Jack Henry Gerard Rose is
survived by his brother, Matthew, and his sister-in-law, Jessica Lopez
Rose; and
WHEREAS, Jack Rose was a compassionate friend who always knew exactly
how to lift a friend in need; he was an example to all and will always
be remembered for his wicked sense of humor, sweet smile, selflessness
and dedication; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jack Henry Gerard Rose posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jack Henry Gerard Rose.
