LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Peter Holmstedt upon the occasion of
being designated as recipient of the 2016 Merchant of the Year Award by
the Merrick Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
exceptional individuals and businesses which substantially contribute to
the economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Peter Holmstedt upon the occasion of being designated as recipient of
the 2016 Merchant of the Year Award by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce;
and
WHEREAS, This special occasion will be celebrated at the Merrick Cham-
ber of Commerce 81st Annual Installation Dinner on Thursday, January 28,
2016, at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, The owner of Holms Service Station in Merrick, New York for
over 45 years, Peter Holmstedt has been an integral part of the Bell-
more-Merrick community, especially through his unsurpassed generosity to
the local school district; and
WHEREAS, Peter Holmstedt has been donating one penny for every gallon
of gasoline that he sells to local schools; his collections have
resulted in an average annual donation of $2,400; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Peter Holmstedt annually applies for a math and
science grant from ExxonMobil's Education Alliance Program which he
donates to a local school; this year's $500 award was granted to the
Camp Avenue Elementary School in North Merrick, New York; and
WHEREAS, Peter Holmstedt recently observed a third grade science class
at Camp Avenue Elementary School where students were creating Lego
projects and learning the importance of following step-by-step
instructions and conducting experiments; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Peter Holmstedt and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peter Holmstedt upon the occasion of being designated as recipient
of the 2016 Merchant of the Year Award by the Merrick Chamber of
Commerce on January 28, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peter Holmstedt.
