LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara Weiner, Esq. upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Outstanding Service Award by the
Legal Project on October 14, 2015
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Weiner, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Outstanding Service Award by the Legal Project, celebrated at the
Legal Project's Pro Bono Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, October 14, 2015,
at the Century House, Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Outstanding Service Award is given to an individual who
has gone above and beyond in their career to provide or support justice
for all; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Barbara Weiner received her law degree from Golden
Gate University College of Law, San Francisco, California; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Barbara Weiner holds the position of Senior Staff
Attorney with the Empire Justice Center; she has focused her legal
career on representing low income people in a variety of forums on a
multitude of issues; and
WHEREAS, During Barbara Weiner's illustrious career, she shifted her
attention to immigration law and helping people on their immigration
status and public benefit eligibility; she has become incredibly well
versed on the topic and has written numerous articles on the subject, as
well as provided training to legal service programs and community organ-
izations on the issue; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Weiner has been an asset to the Legal Project by
helping it carry out a variety of initiatives which serve the legal
needs of the immigrant community; with the support of a grant from the
Office of New Americans, she is able to provide consultation and advice
to the local immigration population twice a month at the Legal Project;
and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has provided tremendous leadership and
guidance to the Legal Project's Immigration Program, helping make it the
successful program that it is today; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to its atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Weiner, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Outstanding Service Award by the Legal Project on Octo-
ber 14, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Weiner, Esq.
