LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. of Bergen, New
York, upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2015
Small Business of the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of
Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
small businesses within the State of New York which contribute to the
economic health and vitality of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. of Bergen, New York, upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2015 Small Business of the Year Award by
the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at an Awards
Ceremony on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Batavia Clarion Hotel, Batavia,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. is receiving this auspicious award for
its continued growth and commitment to Genesee County; and
WHEREAS, In 1991, Bill Guthrie founded Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc.; his
enthusiasm to learn new things and further refine his abilities has led
all the way from doing repairs on the family farm to running a success-
ful business; and
WHEREAS, Bill Guthrie began his welding career on his family farm in
Pavilion, New York; a strong desire to learn new techniques and methods
led him to begin specializing in repairing aluminum, which opened new
doors in the repair of dump trailers for several local companies; and
WHEREAS, With few shops in the area performing aluminum repairs, Bill
Guthrie soon began doing repairs for local tank lines; learning the
ropes of repairing aluminum and striving for quality had begun to grow
the customer base beyond his expectations; and
WHEREAS, New Federal DOT regulations arrived in 1991, specifically 49
CFR 180.413, which required that repairs of DOT/MC specification tanks
be performed by the holder of a National Board "R" stamp; assuring that
the repair is performed following an ASME certified welding procedure;
and
WHEREAS, At this time Bill Guthrie was joined in the business by his
daughter Meg Ryan; she spearheaded the creation of the necessary welding
procedures and set up an approved internal Quality Control System; and
WHEREAS, In addition Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. completed the requirements
to become a federally registered inspection facility for DOT/MC specifi-
cation trailers; further changes that year involved forming the corpo-
ration and moving to its current location in Bergen, New York; and
WHEREAS, With the continued growth and success of Guthrie-Heli Arc,
Inc. Meg Ryan became its outside sales representative; her broad range
of experience in the truck equipment industry has given them a tremen-
dous advantage; and
WHEREAS, With the addition of Matt Ryan as its General Manager, Guth-
rie-Heli Arc, Inc. further expanded its business to carry a full line of
Street Sweepers, Refuse, and Recyclable Collection Trucks; this vital
business also offers custom refined fuel delivery trucks and trailers as
a distributor for the Progress Tank, Brenner, Garsite, Beall, and Walker
tank lines; and
WHEREAS, Due to its focus on fuel delivery systems, the company stocks
many OEM parts to keep its customers' equipment running; they have
everything from hose reel parts to overfill monitor probes, and can ship
parts to their customer's door or install the product; their experienced
mechanics can also perform routine maintenance needs, including brakes,
springs, exhaust, and lubrication service; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. is a DOT registered
repair and inspection facility; it performs the full range of federally
mandated inspections for MC306, MC307, MC312, MC330, MC331, MC338,
DOT406, DOT407, and DOT412 tanks; these specifications cover refined
fuels, propane, chemicals, CO2, and vacuum vessels; and
WHEREAS, In early 2012, Meg Ryan assumed the role of President of
Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. and is excited to be moving into the future as a
woman owned business; and
WHEREAS, Under her luminous leadership, Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. is
committed to safety, continued training for their workforce, and dedi-
cation to quality workmanship which has helped set them apart from the
competition; and
WHEREAS, Small Businesses such as Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. exert a
strong, positive influence on the communities they serve and are a
crucial element in the economy of New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc. of Bergen, New York, upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the 2015 Small Business of the Year
Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Meg Ryan, Owner, Guthrie-Heli Arc, Inc.
