LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jay Gsell upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Wolcott "Jay" Humphrey III Excellence in
Community Leadership Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Jay Gsell has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Jay Gsell upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Wolcott "Jay" Humphrey III Excellence in Community Leadership Award by
the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at an Awards
Ceremony on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Batavia Clarion Hotel, Batavia,
New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to a leader who has made a
positive difference in Genesee County; Jay Gsell is involved in various
organizations, shares his ideas and instills them in others, and incor-
porates his passion into the business community by encouraging individ-
uals to develop a commitment to volunteerism and community development;
and
WHEREAS, For the last 20 years, Jay Gsell has served as the Genesee
County Manager; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the community in which he lives and works, Jay
Gsell has been involved with numerous organizations including both the
United Way of Genesee County, and Humphrey Symposium; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Jay Gsell has been a member of the Genesee County
Chamber Business Development Committee, and the Genesee County Chamber
Public Policy Committee; and
WHEREAS, Jay Gsell is a vital member of the Batavia Rotary Club and
held the position of President from 2006-2007; in addition, he partic-
ipated on the Treasurer's committee; and
WHEREAS, Since 2005, Jay has served on the United Way of Greater
Rochester Board of Directors, and for the last nine years, he has
participated on the Home Care and Hospice of WNY Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Jay Gsell has been the recipient of numerous awards and acco-
lades including the 2008 Ben Franklin Award, and the Spirit of Y Award
in 2010; in addition, he was inducted into the Seton Hall Preparatory
School's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Jay Gsell has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Jay Gsell has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jay Gsell upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Wolcott "Jay" Humphrey Ill Excellence in Community Leadership Award by
the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jay Gsell.
