LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 205th Anniversary of the GOSHEN
INDEPENDENT

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news to their readers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 205th Anniversary of the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT; and
WHEREAS, America's oldest weekly paper, the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT has
been serving the people of Goshen, New York, since 1812; and
WHEREAS, For 205 years, the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT has been providing its
loyal readers with news about its community; today, under the luminous
leadership of Editor, Tom Leek, this valuable local news source has
strived to provide uplifting stories and information about life in a
small town; and
WHEREAS, The residents of Goshen appreciate reading about local births
and deaths and all of the stuff that comes in between; they love to hear
about neighbors helping neighbors, Eagle Scout ceremonies, Little League
games, church suppers, and Memorial Day parades, as well as student
honor rolls; and
WHEREAS, The diligent staff of the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT strive to main-
tain a high quality and relevant paper, deliver a superior product to
all of its readers, and serve as an expressive voice to the people of
Goshen by providing a platform for all members of its community; and
WHEREAS, Our newspapers provide a tremendous service to citizens
across the State of New York by keeping them informed about current
events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by a
responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and
WHEREAS, As the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT moves into the future, it carries
with it the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and an
outstanding record of growth and achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 205th Anniversary of the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Leek, Editor, the GOSHEN INDEPENDENT.
