LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Destini McMillan upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2016 Scholarship Award by the Major
General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the young
adults of today and leaders of tomorrow whose character and achievements
best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Destini McMillan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2016 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris
Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the 18th Annual
Tuition Assistance Program on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Anthony's
Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, Destini McMillan is a student at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA)
where she is a member of the varsity lacrosse team, is active in five
school clubs, and was chosen to be a member of the Newburgh School
District's Student Diversity Team; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this extraordinary young woman is the president
of a young women's group which supports increased community involvement
by young African-American women, and interns for a Newburgh councilwoman
as a champion of the rights of the area's young people; and
WHEREAS, Destini McMillan was also accepted into the NFA NetSci
Program, a collaborative science-research project involving students
from West Point, Boston University and Newburgh Free Academy; and
WHEREAS, Having experienced the loss of her god-sister to leukemia,
Destini McMillan plans to attend Johns Hopkins University where she will
major in pre-med biology with the goal of becoming a pediatric oncolo-
gist; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her high school career, Destini McMillan has
displayed exceptional academic achievement, a strong sense of community
responsibility, and a commitment to excellence which is unparalleled;
and
WHEREAS, Destini McMillan in achieving this academic honor, may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excel-
lence she brings to her family, friends, community and school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Destini McMillan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2016 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris
Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and to extend to her best wishes for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Destini McMillan.
