LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Nora
Cronin Presentation Academy

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary of the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy; and
WHEREAS, The Nora Cronin Presentation Academy (NCPA) is a private
Catholic Middle School for underserved girls in the City of Newburgh,
New York; this vital educational institution fosters education as a
means to raise expectations for young girls in this drug and crime
ridden small city in the Hudson Valley with the highest incidents of
teen pregnancy in New York State; and
WHEREAS, NCPA was inspired by the vision of Nano Nagle and the mission
of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary; the acad-
emy, in a holistic environment, affirms the values of faith, hope,
justice and human dignity; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Principal, Sister Yliana
Hernandez, PBVM, and her dedicated staff, NCPA provides a pathway out of
poverty through education; and
WHEREAS, The staff also encourages each student to care for the Earth,
foster peace, and give back to their communities; and
WHEREAS, The cost of education is $8,000 per student and parents pay a
nominal $50 per student and volunteer all maintenance services; the bulk
of the cost of education is covered by fund raising and grants; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition of the Nora Cronin Presentation
Academy; and
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy
stands prepared to reach out, in an earnest and enthusiastic quest of
its mission, to promote the maximum growth of every student, establish-
ing standards and building skills which will carry its students and the
citizens of its community into the future; and
WHEREAS, The Nora Cronin Presentation Academy is proudly aware of its
distinguished past, eager to fulfill its present commitment to parents,
students and the community, and planning with vision and purpose for the
ebb and swell of growth and change it will encounter in the years to
come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Nora Cronin Presentation Acade-
my; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Yliana Hernandez, PBVM, Principal, Nora Cronin Presen-
tation Academy.
