LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Eugene Fiegl upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 50 years of
dedicated service to the Main-Transit Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Eugene
Fiegl upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition after
50 years of dedicated service to the Main-Transit Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the Town of Amherst, New York, where
he raised his family, Eugene Fiegl has ably served the people of his
community as a member of the Main-Transit Fire Department (MTFD) for
half a century; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Eugene Fiegl worked with the Amherst Highway
Department after 25 years, and spent over 35 years as a Legislative
Committee delegate; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure with the MTFD, Eugene Fiegl
served as a three time President and two-time Vice President; he was
also elected to multiple terms on both the Board of Directors and Build-
ing Committee; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime of service, Eugene Fiegl has been to
nearly every MTFD work detail, fund drive, parade, tournament, state
drill, practice and old field day; he also remains one of the most
influential and longest running liaisons between the Town of Amherst and
the fire department; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Fiegl has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; his efforts were instrumental in building the
race track and training facility, as well as in setting up the town's
Service Award program; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Eugene Fiegl was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems, earn-
ing him the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Eugene
Fiegl is such a firefighter; throughout over 50 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Eugene Fiegl upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition after 50 years of dedicated service to the Main-
Transit Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter Eugene Fiegl.
