LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Quilt-
N-Queens Guild of Queens, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals which serve to enhance the cultural enrichment of
the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 20th Anniversary of the Quilt-N-Queens Guild to be celebrated
at its 20th Anniversary Luncheon on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Antun's
Catering Hall in Queens Village, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1996, the Quilt-N-Queens Guild (QNQ) was
founded by a handful of quilters committed to serving their community
and preserving America's unique crafts and heritage; and
WHEREAS, Today, QNQ is one of the premiere area cultural centers in
its area, and continually engages local artists to promote culture and
education during its meetings at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning;
and
WHEREAS, Each year, this vibrant arts organization donates its
members' creations to such worthy causes as area children's service
programs, New York State Veteran homes, local hospital pediatric units,
and many more; they have also created special programs to celebrate the
Underground Railroad, Black History Month, and Women's History Month;
and
WHEREAS, QNQ has also crafted quilts which have been featured in exhi-
bitions at York College, the Queens Borough President's Office, the
Citicorp Building and various New York City Libraries, as well as the
Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to community service, QNQ members have mentored and
educated children and adults in the art of quilt making, its historical
value, and the need to preserve the craft; they have also provided fami-
lies and individuals with the warmth of quilts including ones given to
75 families after Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those organ-
izations and individuals which enhance the well-being and vitality of
their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excel-
lence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body recog-
nizes the many contributions of the Quilt-N-Queens Guild of Queens, New
York, and wishes this worthy organization continued success in its
proactive mission to benefit the communities it represents; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Quilt-N-Queens Guild of Queens,
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shirley Beckworth, President, Quilt-N-Queens Guild of Queens,
New York.
