LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lei Han upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of the Outstanding Chinese Male Artist by Chinese
Central Television at its "Fire Monkey" 2016 Chinese New Year's Concert
hosted by IU Entertainment and Cloud Entertainment

WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, The history, the heritage, and the lives of the people of all
countries and all cultures are portrayed in their music and dance; the
art and act of sharing them enriches us altogether; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lei
Han upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Outstanding
Chinese Male Artist by Chinese Central Television at its "Fire Monkey"
2016 Chinese New Year's Concert hosted by IU Entertainment and Cloud
Entertainment; and
WHEREAS, Lei Han is a popular Chinese folk and pop singer-songwriter
who was born and raised in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia; he is of Mongol
descent through his mother, and Han Chinese descent through his father;
and
WHEREAS, Lei Han first rose to prominence in 1997, on the Chinese
Central Television (CCTV) New Year's Gala through his spectacular
performance of a song called "1997, A.D."; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Lei Han gained national stardom when he returned to
the Gala to perform his signature hit, "Zou Sifang," one of the most
memorable performances in the show that year; he has since appeared on
the Gala over ten times, and most recently performed at the 2014 show;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed musician has recorded introductory
and conclusion theme songs for numerous Chinese TV series, including the
introductory theme to "Kangxi Dynasty" and "The Emperor in Han Dynasty";
he also performed the main theme "I'll Go with you to the Ends of the
Earth" in the film "Coming Home"; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Lei Han was the winner of the 2014 season of the
Hunan Television show "I Am a Singer," and has received the "Outstanding
Contribution Award" and been named "Best Male Artist" in numerous award
ceremonies; and
WHEREAS, With deep appreciation, this Legislative Body is pleased to
have this opportunity to recognize the spellbinding talent of Lei Han,
and to extend to him its most heartfelt best wishes; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when musical
artists of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lei Han upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Outstanding Chinese Male Artist by Chinese Central Television at its
"Fire Monkey" 2016 Chinese New Year's Concert hosted by IU Entertainment
and Cloud Entertainment; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lei Han.
